Fashtoriously Two
Today marks the 2 year anniversary of this blog, The Fashtorious L.A.C. The beginning of this blog is so important to me because it is when I officially let go of my inhibitions.
Although my blog was launched in 2017, the ideation of it was in 2014. Between those three years, I was hesitant to show the world what I created. Also, I was a perfectionist (still am) who felt that maybe my blog wasn’t “professional” enough. All of these worries that I had about my blog went out the window when I was told that I wasn’t “on brand” by an editor of an online fashion publication for college students.
The publication was used to seeing young women with a cookie-cutter, Taylor Swift sense of style. What they weren’t used to seeing was a black woman (a curvy black woman) in a black one-piece swimsuit. I could have been that cookie-cutter girl that they were looking for, but honestly, my style is pretty versatile. One day, I could be wearing a pink dress because I feel cutesy. Next day, I could be athletic and wear a DKNY Sport outfit with sneakers. Another day, I might want to feel glamorous and sexy, so I would wear some type of fur with gold accessories and thigh high boots.
The editor’s comment lit a fire under me, which ultimately caused me to reveal my brand, style, and creativity to the world.
During these two years, I’ve gone through a lot. From college, graduation, heartbreak, rejection, promotion, and etc. Also, I’ve grown immensely. I’ve found my voice and purpose. I am happy that I am on track to becoming the woman I’ve always wanted to be.
I want to thank those who keep coming to my blog to see/read my latest entries and those who support me on social media and in real life.
I want to give a special thank you to my mother who is my inspiration and photographer for all of my blog pictures. I love you Mommy! :)
